I've been heavily into to character design lately; for the comic that I've been wanting to do. It's initially science fiction-for which I'm a sucker for- but it also includes a chunk of fantasy. Yay.
But on the side, I really would like to do a slice-of-life comic. For practice and to secretly experiment with aesthetic placement of the cells on a page.
The only problem is that I can't seem to come up with a plot. I have all the psychological themes that I'd like to address, but I don't want it to be a like you were watching lifetime television. (Gags) I personally have never liked slice of life content because most of the time they were unsatisfactorily shallow. I want to do one of depth, however, that looks beyond mediocrity and obtains the beautiful and the ugly.
How does one reveal such in day to day life? It's a challenge. I'm hoping that the plot itself won't really be on a day to day basis, but be bound by meaningful events; not simply the passage of time. Any advice?? Here's a hint: The main character is phlegmatic young male pursuing his psychology PHD. I want it to be an observance of human condition, namely inspired by similiarly driven shows I've enjoyed such as Kino's Jounrey and Mushishi.
I'm also having trouble binding the 5 main characters by plot in the sci-fi comic.
